12 - 16 June 2016
We are delighted to announce that Mr. Garrelt Duin - Minister for Economic Affairs, Energy and Industry for the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany - is the patron of the 8th International Freiberg Conference. Additionally, we are very pleased to have Mr. Duin as well as Mr. Matthias Hartung - CEO of RWE Generation SE and RWE Power AG - as our plenary speakers.
Following the successful conclusion of the 2015 conference in Huhhot (Inner Mongolia, China), the 8th International Freiberg Conference will once again be back in Germany. The upcoming conference will be taking place from 12-16 June 2016 in Cologne, which is situated near the Rhenish lignite mining region. This event is jointly organised by the Institute of Energy Process Engineering and Chemical Engineering (IEC), TU Bergakademie Freiberg and the Institute for Chemical Processing of Coal (Zabrze, Poland). It will focus on innovative coal value chains and its scope will include the entire coal value chain from mining to conversion and chemical utilisation.
The forthcoming event will address a wide range of issues linked to the potential for alternative developments for coal as well as challenges and opportunities for coal in the global energy economy. The conference will provide a high-level discussion forum to facilitate the exchange of information and expertise between political, industry and scientific stakeholders. Participants are expected to come from diverse fields and industrial branches ranging from researchers and specialists engaged in fundamental and applied R&D to policymakers, industry experts from coal producing companies as well as equipment and technology providers/manufacturers. Abstract submissions for conference presentations relating to studies, new developments, current or planned projects and operational experiences related to innovative coal value chains are welcome.
In addition to the scientific programme which will be held in the Pullman Cologne Hotel situated in the historical city centre, the event will also include exciting technical tours. During the technical tours, participants will have the opportunity to visit a lignite mine, diverse R&D and power plant facilities operated by RWE (one of Europe's biggest energy organisations) as well as chemical plants situated in the Rhenish region. Additionally, the conference programme will also include interesting social events (e.g. welcome reception, conference dinner, Cologne walking tour) dedicated to facilitate networking and interaction between conference participants.
We look forward to welcoming you to the 8th International Freiberg Conference in Cologne, Germany in June 2016!
